We make these chunky floating shelves from solid timber in our workshop in Corr na Móna, County Galway. The DOWN brackets sit underneath, finishing the look and bringing a bit of farmhouse and industrial character to the timber.
Each shelf is made to order here in Ireland, and you pick the length to suit the spot you have in mind. They work just as well in a kitchen as they do in a bedroom, a hallway or an awkward alcove.
We finish every one with natural wax, which brings up the grain and the colour without hiding what the wood actually is.
Solid Timber Construction
We pick the timber ourselves, going on grain, strength and character instead of uniformity.
It is kiln dried before we work it, then waxed by hand, so the shelf keeps that warm, tactile feel that only real timber has.
Timber is a natural material, so grain, knots and colour shift from one shelf to the next. No two come out the same, and that's the whole point of a handmade piece.
DOWN Metal Brackets
This design uses our DOWN style metal brackets, mounted underneath the timber and left on show.
Chunky timber against bare metal sits well in rustic, farmhouse and industrial rooms, and it holds its own in more contemporary ones too.

Care Instructions
The natural wax finish makes upkeep easy. A wipe with a soft damp cloth is usually all it needs, and a bit of furniture wax now and again will keep it looking well.
